Which professional growing media product families are available in Canada and the United States?
The North America range includes Grower Grade Peat Moss, All Purpose Mixes, High Porosity Mixes, Seed and Plug Mixes, and Organic Mixes. Each family is intended for a different crop, container, and irrigation requirement.
Does ASB supply growing media in Canada and the United States?
Yes. ASB supports professional growers and distributors in Canada and the United States through its North America sales organisations. Confirm the product family, packaging, volume, destination, and delivery window with the relevant sales team before ordering.
What is Grower Grade Peat Moss?
Grower Grade Peat Moss is a professional raw material used by growers and substrate blenders who need peat structure for their own production programme. The required fraction, moisture condition, packaging, and volume should be confirmed before ordering.
How do All Purpose and High Porosity Mixes differ?
All Purpose Mixes are designed for balanced water retention and air space across broad crop programmes. High Porosity Mixes include a more open structure for crops or production systems that need stronger drainage and root-zone aeration.
What is ASB PW420 used for?
ASB PW420 is a high-porosity mix for specialty greenhouse programmes that need more air space and drainage than a standard all-purpose mix. Its published composition includes peat moss, 15% perlite, 5% wood fiber, and mycorrhizae-oriented positioning; test the product under the actual crop and irrigation programme before a larger commitment.
What is a Seed and Plug Mix?
A Seed and Plug Mix is a fine, uniform growing medium for seed trays, plug cells, liners, and young plant work. It is selected for even filling, predictable first wetting, and controlled early root development.
Are ASB Organic Grower Mixes OMRI Listed?
ASB Organic Grower Mix is OMRI Listed under the USDA National Organic Program. The current OMRI listing and the English and Spanish certificate files are available from the North America Organic Mixes page.
What is Canadian sphagnum peat moss used for in growing media?
Canadian sphagnum peat moss is a commonly used professional horticultural raw material valued for its structure and water-holding behaviour. The appropriate peat type and mix composition depend on the crop, container, and irrigation system.
Can ASB adjust a growing medium for a crop or programme?
Yes. Product discussions can cover structure, pH, added components, packaging, crop use, irrigation, and commercial supply planning. A realistic trial should be agreed before a custom or larger-volume programme is scaled up.
What pH should a peat growing substrate be?
The right pH depends on the crop and on the laboratory method used. Raw peat is naturally acidic, commonly around pH 3.5-4.5; blueberry substrates remain in this acidic range, rhododendron mixes are usually around pH 4.5-5.0, forest nursery products around pH 5.0-5.5, and most vegetable and flower substrates around pH 5.8-6.2 on the RHP scale or within the standard pH 5.5-6.5 range. Calcium carbonate or dolomitic limestone raises the pH; mushroom substrates are commonly adjusted to about pH 6.5-7.5. Compare pH specifications only when the test method and extraction ratio are the same, as H2O, CaCl2, EN, and other methods can give different results.
Do North America growing mixes contain fertilizer or NPK?
Some growing mixes include a defined starter nutrient charge, while others are supplied without a finished nutrition programme. Confirm the selected product specification, the crop stage, and the planned irrigation and fertilizer management before ordering.
What packaging formats are available in North America?
Available formats vary by product and can include 1.75 cu. ft. bags, 3.8 cu. ft. bags, 80 L bags, and 110 cu. ft. large bales. Confirm the current product, pallet configuration, storage fit, and delivery plan with the North America sales team.
Can I request technical files or product documents?
Yes. The North America Downloads page provides the current brochure, OMRI certificates, and other public documents. The sales team can confirm additional product and commercial supply information for a defined programme.
Can I discuss samples or a trial volume?
Trial discussions are possible, but availability and format depend on the product family, market, and current sales coordination. A useful trial uses the actual crop, container, irrigation water, and production period.
How do I contact ASB about Canadian or United States growing media supply?
Use the North America Contact or Inquiry page and select United States or Canada. The inquiry is routed to the relevant North America sales address so the right team can follow up.
What information is useful before requesting a North America growing media quote?
